Generally requiring a much bigger area of competition, Winch Challenges don’t offer as much of a spectator opportunity as the Trials events, but are no less of a challenge. Often these Challenges are held in specially built Off Road Parks.
Again competitors face a series of stages, but unlike the trials series, the stage must be completed, with a balance of aggressive driving, winching, and truck reliability.
Most of the top competitors run highly modified production with big American V8 power, with a few imported or locally built “Ultra 4” beasts starting to make an appearance, but these are regularly upstaged by super lightweight, and so much more nimble 4 cylinder teams.
A popular variation of the Challenge is a teams event where a team (usually of 3 trucks) has to get all three vehicles through as many stages as possible.
